|On Monday, May 12, 2014, CodeBaby Corporation’s partner, WebSpeaking, was nominated as one of the top 100 most innovative small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Netherlands. Published in the daily newspaper NRC Handelsblad, the award is funded in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce, NRC Media, and Mercedes-Benz.|
WebSpeaking is the exclusive distributor of digital CodeBaby characters in the Benelux region. Started in 2010 by owner Michael de Louwere, the company specializes in digital personalities for both websites and eLearning. “I first experimented with speech recognition while at University, but back then the combination with custom avatars in order to create a dialogue on a mobile device simply wasn’t possible. So when I saw what CodeBaby was doing, I knew it was the future and had to get involved,” said de Louwere.
The SME Innovation Top 100 expert panel selected only 100 companies from the Netherlands based on their sales, revenue, and staff expansion—acknowledging that these innovative companies are an important factor for driving economic growth within the Netherlands.
De Louwere focused WebSpeaking efforts on enhancing the growing healthcare industry in the Netherlands. Currently, the country is experiencing an increase in elderly care numbers while less young people are entering the workforce. He believes technology will minimize rising costs but doesn’t want to see the emotional connection lost in the process. “Lots of tech in hospitals is growing but lacks emotional connection. CodeBaby characters make it more personal because if something reacts to us, we have a connection with it. People need a friend to help with reintegration and health management.”
The ninth annual SME Innovation Top 100 awards ceremony will take place on June 11, 2014 at the headquarters of Mercedes-Benz Netherlands.
WebSpeaking, located in Haarlem, was launched in early 2010 as the Exclusive Distributor in Benelux for the American company CodeBaby, a pioneer in the field of 3D avatars. WebSpeaking, led by Michael de Louwere, provides consultancy, project management, and implementation for the whole process, from idea to realization.
